I've been looking for information on maintenance for my Striker 88. I'm probably being impatient, but in several sessions on the computer I haven't found what I thought would be readily available. i could start taking inspection plates off and grease whatever I find, but I want to have a better idea of the innards for when I need to rebuild. Anyone out there got one or something similar? Thanks in advance.

I'll start by saying I own an Anyang, but have run and maintained a couple different hammers before Say mak, mechanicals and stuff.

If you have kept it oiled pretty much there's the crank bearing and pitman bearing that need greasing, and maybe the connecting rod at the back cylinder. Other then that there's not much to them unless stryker did really odd things to them. I don't know why you are thinking about a rebuild, how old is your hammer?

while I have a Striker 88lb hammer, it may or may not be the same as yours-

James Cosgrove, who ran Striker, imported two different brands of hammer and rebadged them as Strikers- the early ones were actually Anyangs, the later ones are Shanxi's.

To make things even more confusing, some of the 88lb (40kg) hammers were two piece hammers, like mine is, with a separate anvil, and most were single piece hammers, which have an integral anvil.
At least, the Anyangs were made in both configurations. Not sure about the Shanxi's, as I have never seen a 2 piece Shanxi.

So there are at least three different striker 88lb hammers.

First thing is to identify which of the three yours is- my guess is that its a single piece Shanxi, as that was by far the most common.
Then, you should be able to find someone with a manual that you could get them to copy.

The Beautiful Iron machine is, I believe, a single piece Shanxi. So his info is probably the most appropriate for your hammer, if, indeed, it is a single piece Shanxi.

That's a great link, Sam. Thanks. I only mention rebuild because machines wear out. Maybe I will first, but I'll try to make sure the hammer is in good enough shape for my wife to get the money back that she was so generous to let me spend. I haven't run it that much yet, but I'm going to step it up.
You're right, Ries, it's a single piece. and looks as far as I can tell like the Shanxi, but the oiler is in the back and has a single drip/inspection glass and a single oil tube to the back cylinder, none to the front and no priming lever.

Keep enough oil going through it that the ram is wet, but not dripping with oil.

Give the grease zerks a shot every 6 months or so, depending on usage.

Periodically check that all fasteners are tight (including the connecting rod big end bolts, inside the inspection cover you remove to grease the internally accessed bearings).

I have dealt with a lot of 'C41' hammers, and this is basically it for maintenance. If you run for to long without oil the con rod small end bearing will start knocking. It is a bronze bush that can be easily replaced.

Most of the hammers get 'better' after a good bit of use, as everything beds.
