Has anybody used laser pens to centre stock especially when flipping over in conjunction with depth stops?

Missed the last few comments here, sorry guys. Centering tools seem to work great with square or rectangular stock. How do you flip over a round and find exact center? I can't think of an easy way like Uri's adjustable stops. This tool works well enough for now. I might try to make one that can handle a 2 inch slug.

Here it is with my 22gpm setup:

I've been on and off again trying to get better results for my hammer heads. It's coming closer to resembling my favorite 100 year old Heller rounding hammer.

Latest effort was 5/8" through 1 3/4" 4140 in one shot. Still may try to make a two-stage setup but it's been alot of manual labor to finish 'em up with drifts, etc.

Steve: I have a pipe level left over from my pipe welding days in Kodiak. It has two feet that sit on the pipe, a rotating level ,and a center punch in it. Find top dead center and center punch it. Rotate level 180 degrees and center punch the other side. Very accurate AND inexpensive tool. You can also use a pipe wrap, center punch a spot and go half the circumference around the pipe and center punch the other side. The pipe level, though,is dead on. Am I being too simple here and not getting your question??

Hey Eric, that's a great suggestion for two-sided punching. I was stuggling with that before I reduced it to a one-sided punch with the bolster showed. It sucks the material more than punching from both sides but the simplicity can't be beat.

Lay the round on a smooth surface. clamp or hold secure. run a square up to the side of the round. scribe a mark exactly where the verticle leg of the square touches the round.repeat this on the oposite side. you have just marked both sides. rotate 90 degrees.voila..... top bottom. this is an acurate method of layout when you only have a square and is well within the acuracy of a hot punched round stock hammer blank. we dont always have a wraparond handy. another methed. two squares.. lay oposite over round with two legs parrelell.scribe the demension where the other legs touch the round.
