In another post I showed how I added a taller sow block to my 4-B Nazel. That made it possible to use shorter dies. Here's a swage die made to go in place of the bottom die. I machined long pieces of dovetail bar and just cut what I needed. This is actually the swage to make the oval pins for the oval-pin shackles shown earlier. The hole in the center allowed for a healthy plug weld.

Good point! Well I'm pretty sure the plug weld hole is around 1-1/2". This is a fairly large-ish swage, the pin that it forged was 2-3/4 X 3-1/4. It's probably around 6 X 8 and 6 inches tall. The dovetail is 1-3/4 deep and about 3-1/2 wide.

Thanks Grant,
Did you ever have a problem with the dovetail being broken off?
