I am trying to twist a rather large piece of 12 layer steel for some random damascus. I heated i to temp today and found I did not have the strength to twist it by hand myself. I am hoping someone can help. it is roughly 1.5 inches wide buy just about the same high by 8-9 long. It is 1075 and 15n20

make your lever longer and make sure you have a good heat all the way thru...1.5 inches is big but it is possable to twist might need a 6 ft lever to do it tho...

Thats the temp you have to work at with damascus while forging or twisting. I just ddont have the torque to get the twist started, not sure if its just the small handles I was using OR my back injury not allowing me to get the torque.

I'll twist it for you.... How often do you get in towards Auburn?

I'd bee willing to make the trip but it would not be until Friday at the earliest, and I would have my son with me, I dont like traveling far when school is in during the week in case of problems. I thank you for this offer, I am slowly finding more limitations my back injury has caused over time. I am awaiting another bar to be welded for forge welding this week as well so I may have 2 bars and an idea for one of them.

This afternoon Larry and I with some help from a friend of his and my son twisted up my billets, I think a fun time was had by all and I loved seeing his shop and him at work. I would like to thank all involved in solving this little dilemma I was having.

Well you'll have to show us what you make? I am curious how that bifurcated billet works out...

Oh I will, I didnt get to grinding those off this evening when I got home, maybe tomorrow afternoon. I gotta run over to tacoma to pick up a new grinder/sharpener. I think once I grind those 2 back a bit and weld the cleaner edges tgether and pond it back into shape...That piece has hammer written all over it.
