Cool blade, maybe if there's any material left over after making the handle you could fashion it into a cutting board...:bounce:...

Sam,
That looks a lot like a Spanish belduque blade or what the South American gauchos carry, which they call a punal - in any case, it's a very useful shape for general use.
Thanks for posting...Hollis

thanks Bruce! I got some Ipe wood I'd like to try, got a nice plank too that would make a sweet board, you ever handle any of it? Almost feels as heavy as steel, it's one of the densest hardwoods ever, they use it for bearings and such.
Thanks Hollis, I looked up Belduque, they are very cool shapes I'd like to try close, with a nice real handle too.

I used to deliver rather large stacks of ipe decking as a driver for a hardwood company. I was told by one of the installers I delivered to regularly that if you were to get an ipe splinter, and weren't able to get it out- GO TO THE HOSPITAL! He said that a coworker of his had that happen to him, and within 3 days of getting the splinter, his finger festered and swelled up to bratwurst size and would have needed to get it amputated had it gotten any worse.
That being said, Ipe is a very dense, durable wood that has literally stopped .45 slugs fired from my Springfield 1911 pistol.
It is an amazing wood that I like a lot! I chose it as a wood to turn a nightstick for a cop in the local precinct...He loves it 🙂
