Hi everyone, this is my first post here. I have been bladesmithing for a little over a year. In that time most of my work has been just with the blades and I have only started making finished knives in the past several months. I figured I should get the blade and heat treating right before I try to make an entire knife. In one sense this has been helpful as it has let me focus on forging and heat treating, but looking back it has left me behind a bit on fit and finish. I am just finishing up my fifth knife so I will post what I have.(much of this has been posted on other forums but I thought it may be a good idea to try to get involved in a more local forum.)

This is the first knife I finished. It is a cqc-6 style with 1084fg forged blade, titanium liners and g-10 scales. It has been my daily carry for several month as part of quality control test. So far it is holding up well.

This is my second knife I finished, it is differntially hardened W-2 with iron wood handle, cable guard and brass spacer.

This knife is an 8" honyaki wa-gyuto in w-2 with aspen handle. I am happy with the blade but the handle is a little cheesy.

This is a 6.5" honyaki wa-santuko in w-2 with a horn ferule and spalted aspen handle. I think the handle came out much better on this knife.

[Image Can Not Be Found] Oh I am a chef and both the kitchen knives are being used on a daily basis and performing beautifully.
This is my most recent knife. It is around 8" in w-2 with 416 guard, brass spacer and chestnut burl handle.

Here are a couple more I have been working on but not finished.

These are some katana I forged. The one on top is cable and currently in use as a machete. Many a shrub has tasted the cold steel of this blade. In the middle is w-2 and on the bottom cable, these two have not been heat treated yet.
This is my first attempt at damascus, I forged it at the end of last summer. Didn't leave enough for the tang though...I have been thinking about doing a folder with it.

So thats about where I am at. I am thinking about doing the damscus folder soon, but also have a fighter forged and waiting to finish and then there are the two katana. Oh and I just got my first commission, for a fillet knife. I am planning on either cable with integral bolster or 1095 15n20 with integral bolster, if I can pull off the integral thing.
Thanks for looking, I hope you enjoyed them. Please let me know what you think, -Justin

Hey Justin, You're a very accomplished bladesmith for being at it just one year. I've see plenty that don't do as well in 10....Great stuff...bruce

Great jobs- except that nasty Damascus in the last photo- you should just send that to me for disposal.
Just kidding- stay with it and thanks for posting pics!

If you fill in your profile info we can see where you are from...

Really nice work, Justin. I especially like that ironwood handle.

Hey guys, thanks for the warm welcome. I started welding up the billet for the fillet knife today, slow going without a press. I will also probably do the same blade in cable then if one doesn't work out I will still have a knife to finish. It will be a few weeks but I will post pictures as soon as it's done. Thanks again for the kind words, -Justin

Justin are you a member of NWBA? If not join us! Are you planning on attending our conference in a couple of weeks - going to be some good demos tghere by ABS mastersmiths Mike Vagino, and Bill Burke. Gonna be more frolic and fun than you can have without clothes - well almost anyway. Lots of info on the home page about it. Make it if you can.

Bill thank you for the invitation. I would love to join the NWBA and will look into it further. Unfortunately my current job requires vacation requests to be made six months in advance, so I will not be attending the conference. However now that I know about it I will start planning for next year. I am self taught and don't know any other smiths in my area and feel a little alone out here sometimes, so I would love to start going to such events. Thanks again, Justin
