I was wondering if anyone had an OCP Guillotine that they wouldn't mind measuring I am hoping to build one. If you could give the overall length, width, and height of the up rights. As well as the opening height and depth. My goal is to be able to use the OCP dies down the road, for now I will make some out of mild steel until I can purchase the 4140 dies. Could you also provide the height of the upper and lower dies? Thank You for your help Kevin Hutchinson

Kevin,

At last months Club house hammer in seen the one Darryl Nelson was using and decided needed one.
Think this is the OC Guillotine he was using . Didn't copy exactly but followed the idea. Used 1/2 thick dies of 5160 because that is what had on hand. Side plates are 1" thick cold roll. Added feature for stops. A short quickly adjustable stop and drilled and tapped frame for longer stop and also method of centering stock when fed in from side. Spring return of upper die that can be set for return on not.
Just finished heat treating the dies today and making a holder for the dies. Gary

I was at the Hammer In also, same thought crossed my mind. Hopefully I will see you at the next Hammer In. Thanks for the dimensions having them right on the piece helps a lot. What did you make the base plate out of? Just thinking if you hardened the dies couldn't that wear the base plate out. At work we have some Hardox 450 I was thinking of using for the base plate for mine. Hardox 450 is an abrasion and impact resistant steel, hopefully it will prevent the wear on the base plate. Again thank you for all of the information. Kevin

The dimension just shows where started. Originally was going to mill slots for the side plates but instead used dowel pins to hold the side plates in alignment plus couple of half inch bolts for each side plate. The gap was enlarged also so bottom die could come out in the gap in the side plates. My bottom plate is mystery metal that had on hand and was just the right size and didn't need any changing in size. No idea if it will stand up to some beating or not.
