If you've ever been curious about how to forge a drill bit, the latest addition to Steve's Smithing Tips and Techniques might be of interest--

Do you have a photo of the spoon bits you made?

Good Morning,

When I had "the Mastermyr Find", tool collection, there were spoon bits in it. The fellow in Tacoma that I picked the Mastermyr Tool Box up from, had made a spoon bit for himself. He showed me how it worked, He drilled a 1 1/2" hole (+/-) through a 2x4 in about 6 rotations. REALLY QUICK and Very clean bore. They cut equally clockwise or counter-clockwise. The Vikings were not stupid, we have a lot to learn!!

Think, a wood gouge chisel, sharpened on the end and both sides. Simply MAGIC!!:smug::smug:

Neil
