So I'm looking for a decent leg/post vise that's either in usable condition or at least close to it. The easiest way to get ahold of me is email at ajbebeau@gmail.com or call or text 541-264-0783 Thanks

Hey,Andy

you could go to the workshop demo at Longveiw on the 28th of sept, and inspect a post vice up close and personal. Someone always brings a vice or two to the hammer in at the tail gate sales. This way you could find a nice post vice and attend a cool demonstration, while increasing your skill level and meet some new smiths.....just sayin..

I saw that event and would love to go but I'm going to be demonstrating at the Oregon GEARS show in Portland all that weekend.

Hey, Andy

to bad you can't make it , I have two post vices for sale, I also saw 2for sale on craigs list just now , and Jerry Culberson probably has a good selection . The important thing is that you get one that fits your needs. So, what's your size and what's your budget?

Truth be told I really dont know much about post vises, I've only been smithing for a year or so. The only downside is everything in my shop has to be mobile so i was planning on using an old truck rim or something like that so i can roll it around. I'd like to keep it under $100.

Andy,

to mount a vice on a truck rim is a good plan . You don't need to big a vice for one that will be moved around and not bolted to the floor. Look for one with 4or5" jaws(in width) make sure the screw is in good shape by seeing that it is not to worn out (has square edges) and runs smoothly with some grease on it. Look around for one that is complete and it will go for anywhere from 50.00$ to 100.00  if the jaws meet square and it doesn't look to beat up and bent ....buy it!  Find a price of plate, and a piece of 3" pipe and a few welds later you will be grabin stuff ....good luck and keep us posted!

Great thanks for the pointers, I got a few emails from this thread but there all up in washington... So now gotta figure how to get them down here without spending a ton on fuel. I will be in portland the weekend of the 28th so I guess if I could get someone to meet up with me in the evening or something I could make something work. Keep working on it and see what I can get.
