While I’m a member of the forum I’m not a member of the NWBA and thought it improper to comment or vote in the recently popular thread, I’ve been reading it. And as the temporary self appointed honorary forum crackpot I thought I’d jump up and stick my nose where it may not belong. I and others have stated think a sales gallery would be a benefit to your organization. It appears the idea is to have the gallery at the conference only, perhaps the members should consider including a website sales gallery.

It could be set up for sales in many ways from product donations to direct sales from the smiths themselves, this could benefit both the smith and the organization with a percentage donation paid by the seller or what have you.

Many people with varying levels of interest visit your site daily perhaps some would like to help and receive a product from a ‘real blacksmith’ or metal artist. This would not just be a way to easily donate to the organization it could be a benefit to a smith with limited sales possibilities, selling is never free and a donation off the top would be easy for someone with limited access to potential customers.

Anyway I thought Grant had way too much time on his hands and am looking for ways to keep him out of the pool halls, I’ll volunteer to help as much as I can as I’m sure many others will. With all the interest and opinions stated in the ‘who should pay’ thread I believe any gallery idea implemented will be a success no matter how you proceed.

Anybody have ideas or opinions?

I dont think there are many pool halls out by Grant.... There is the one biker bar but I dont think Grant is welcome back there after the last fight he picked with Jr. and Bubba..

Whatever you are, be a good one.

I remember clocking one guy right in the knee with my crotch. The other one I busted in the fist with my jaw. Showed them!Cry

Well Grant you should try a little self control, if you abuse bikers at the neighborhood drinking establishment they won’t let you play anymore.

Well it’s obvious there is little or no interest in a web sales gallery. However, we learned that Grant enjoys physically abusing local motorcycle enthusiasts, whilst consuming alcoholic beverages. This must be a local sport, the locals here do a thing called rodeo, you guys don’t pile on the bull do you?

Actually, I was cogitating on it. No, really, I was. Would be a new and interesting thing. Not sure it would reach the customers is all. I'd really like to hear more input on the idea. What do you'all think about it? Any more comments/ideas/input?

Could be interesting and fun, I have a small bucket of forged trinkets returned some years back when DJ retired and closed his shop/gallery.

They are just gathering dust in the shop.

That’s great Gene, but I thought you would want to design and build the official NWBA blacksmith folder. You know the kind of knife you used as a kid, no not the bronze type, you know when you were a little older, made with steel. Perhaps with an effigy of Grant, with him sticking his tongue out at everyone, I mean tongs.

What if any effect will the NBA's tax status have on any potential use of the Site for and possible proceeds going to the NWBA? I know I haven't stated the question very well, so I hope you can interpolate my meaning.

Respectfully Jeff

I’m sure we all can Interpose, interpret, deduce or construe the very essence of your interrogatory. I’m no tax expert but I don’t think the Gov. cares where the money comes from or how its distributed as long as no profits are paid to the ‘owners’ of the organization, and you of course must fill out all the forms and dot all your t’s and cross your eyes, you know all the really important stuff. See if you can help me get Gene to do a NWBA folder, he’s just sitting around getting into trouble no doubt, might as well get him to do something before he rusts into place, type loud he’s a might hard of reading.

I think we could do this via x amount to the NWBA per post, who ever buys pays shipping. That way the nwba gets a couple bucks for 'whatever' operating costs events whatever. Just try to keep it low key so Gregoire and her tax cronies dont try to come and get ya.

Yes, it actually comes under the "don't ask, don't tell" chapter of the U.S. tax code. Actually, I just thought we'd let people hawk their wares. And they can donate if they want. I don't want something I have to police, for pity sake.

Are you thinking like a sales forum like some of the knife forums have? Or a ‘blog’ type sales platform in the top section of the site? I’m wondering about the how the potential purchasers would interpret an open sales system with no direct sales interaction with the organization, and if it will convey the proper spirit to maintain both purchases and donations.

Grant I know you don’t want to get caught up in some big sales and shipping nightmare, there must be some way to do this without driving you out of your mind. Perhaps an eBay type thing, where the seller is responsible to the organization to deliver the product and satisfy the purchaser without the org. getting directly involved.
edit:
This of course eliminates direct donations of products, there would be no one to sell or ship the wares. Perhaps a volunteer would be willing to see to shipping and directing payment to the org., perhaps this idea could be expanded in some way?

Don't intend to do any of that. All I'm talking about is a forum where members can sell what they make.

Dang, I thought you already had a ‘for sale’ thread? Will another be different in some way?

I don’t think my last post here came out as intended. Allow me to rephrase my earlier question, do you feel there is a way to differentiate a thread in some manner that will entice donors and purchasers to participate? I believe I may have missed the point, do you feel an organization operated website sales gallery is not viable option? You know the limits and capability of your organization, I hope you don’t feel I’m questioning your opinion. I just thought it would provide your members and organization with a number of opportunities, admittedly it would increase the workload and responsibilities for those involved. And there is never a guaranty that a great deal of hard work will pay off.
