Could be a replacement I suppose.. All these parts on Nazels are made to fit the casting... lots are forgings and then just "cleaned up" so that might explain the difference in appearance as well

Well, there is the concept of inter-changeble parts and then there is total mass production and everything in between. They never cranked out Nazel hammers like model "T's", they just made them to order. As long as the parts fit, they didn't need to be identical. You should see the flat-die hammer marks on these rods. The first rod had to be drawn very close to length, the second one has a lot more "windage" for getting the holes the right distance apart. I'm thinking it might have been a replacement, although my 4-B (a later model) had a rod that was rough machined the whole length. Really rough, it was. Looked almost like a thread, like 1/4" feed!

On our side of the world we would presume (1) made Friday morning, rushed, keen to finish and knock off for the week-end.(2) made Monday morning, hung over, please pass the Asprin and don't slam the lid!, I think I'll turn this, the lathe makes less noise than that hammer. Sort of production!
