Well, old Murphy is alive and well! The chimney pipe reached a temperature of about 250 degrees. Shortly there after my roof top exhaust fan shut down.
The setup has pretty good draw without the fan but not nearly as good. I'm going to see if I can find a fan that can handle the higher temperature.

Since your fan is on the roof I expect it's in the hot exhaust. If you can set it up for induced draft that problem can be eliminated. You would have to be able to put a "T" at the base of the stack and mount the fan to blow air up the chimney with the hot gases coming in above the fan. It will stay cool that way.
