I mean what the hell? Wasn't it just 2000 like last year? I can remember thinking 2000 being this far off future where we would have flying cars and space travel. Now it's a whole decade past that? It sure seems crazy how fast you can lose a year, or in this case a decade... So that being the case what are you going to do this one?

Whatever you are, be a good one.

We had this conversation last night. Based on that experience, it looks as if I'll be starting this year arguing with my girlfriend about what constitutes a 'decade'. :hot:

I wonder why we notice the 21st century whizzing by this year rather than last year when the 1 in the second column showed up?

Well yeah , ten years since 2000, this is the start of 11, thus a decade?

We're there, Bro. Try internet searches on the exact phrases "Terrafugia Transition" and "Virgin Galactic."

AND we can heat a chunk of steel to forging temp - or even welding temp - with radio waves.

The "future" (now) is really cool. But expensive. Nobody friggin warned us it would be expensive.

No matter where you go... there you are.

This is the brave new future they warned us about. I'm still looking for one of thise George Jetson space cars in a briefcase. Where the hell are they?

I never imagined that this same future would have me hammering hot steel or going out daily to feed a herd of horses in the mud. That's just about the level of technology I'm comfortable with, but if anybody gets a line on a Jetson car, let me know!

Flying cars? Can you imagine what would happen when people started texting while flying? :help:

Rather than flying cars I am far more interested in the new Google cars that drive themselves. Lets face it, most of the accidents and congestion is caused by human error. The drive to work in the morning would not be so bad if you could safely use it to check out the NWBA website, your email, read a book or just daydream.

Well my gut says riding around in a car i am not in control of is a very bad thing, knowing that a computer and not a 16 year old girl texting her BFF is in control of the one who is waiting to take a turn in front of me might not be a bad thing...

There are airplanes flying over your head every day that are being controlled by computers even when the plane is not flying on autopilot, more and more are fly by wire.

I think/hope/pray they put better computers in airplanes. As long as my car doesn't have a Windows operating system, otherwise I can expect regular crashes and re-starts.

Happy New Beer/Year

I did an ABS workshop a few years ago and the instructor was saying that Acura had a new model (2005?) that was totally drive-by-wire. Throttle, shift, steering, brakings, suspension, etc. They had 7 infa-red sensors, two were for cruise control, front and back, if a car was approaching you too fast from the rear it would speed you up, if you were approaching a car too fast it would slow you down. 4 sensors, front, rear and 2 sides were for monitoring what is around you. We had to ask where the 7th sensor was. "In the right front fender" if you approach an intersection and a pedestrian steps too close to the curb, the sensors will look front, rear and sideways to see whether the car would stop, steer or brake.

How far have we come? Remember the Jetsons????:giggle:

Welcome to "Oh, Eleven"!!

As long as we are above our shoes, We know where we are.

The automated stuff would be the first thing to go out on anything I had like that. Quickly followed by the power windows.
