Tom Ferry and Dave Lisch and Bill Burke will be making the steel the hard way, from sand.
Thats right sand... at the Spring Conf in Mt Vernon. When the world goes to hell in a hand bag this is a skill that you may want to have. The best way to learn this skill is to help us do it. One of the things we need is coal choppers, the coal is big and we need it small so we chop and chop and chop. It is a lot of fun, that is if you like bring coverd in black stuff, which most of us do. please let us know if you will be willing to help. space is limited so sign up fast.
Thank you it will be fun and you will be the man or woman.

DO to the limited space for coal choppers and the high cost of coal we are no longer offering free coal chopping . if you would still like to chop coal the cost for a spot is $20.

Is that anything like being a coke-sacker? Or a cork-sucker? Or a calk-socker?

“There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but then there are others who, with the help of their art and their intelligence,
transform a yellow spot into the sun.” ~ Pablo Picasso ~

Late at night, drop by the flypress, put some spacers in, squish to size, bring beer.

What A guy! But really Dave you know I am much more generous than that, I wouldn't dream of robbing such a special opportunity from someone else. Id like to donate my "free" spot to some less fortunate smith with a burning desire to chop coal...

You know my Kid still is young enough (just turned 18) that he likes to show everyone how great he is and how strong he is... Maybe you should just bring all the coal down to my shop and I can put him on it.. He works damn hard for $10/hr

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Are you going to be there Thursday? I just might bring Andrew along, He is working for me and I pay him weekly, (not weakly) so I have to pay him the same if he is sitting on the couch playing X box or if he is in Mt Vernon chopping coal...

And of course I'll help, but only because I couldn't stand to know you where out chopping coal all alone....

Whatever you are, be a good one.

Dave, What size pieces are you going for? Someone had a crusher at a conference some years back. It was within the last 10.

Dave, I expect I'll have time to smash some 1inch and smaller. How much are you getting? Can we get coffee with that?

Much CHAR-coal was chopped. And burned to successfully produce some steel! If you weren't there you should have been! Hot dogs were roasted with the waste heat. Blacksmithing and groceries, it couldn't be better! Maybe next time they will let me chop some too>>>

Dave,
I've sent Tom a CD with the pics I took. Hopefully they will be suitable to illustrate an article for the Paper and here. Thanks,
Thanks,
