We just want to say a huge thank you to all who are giving us such wonderful support and wishing us well in so many ways as we travel on this new road together.

Your love and laughter, thoughts, phone calls, emails, cards, visits, conversations, helpful suggestions, ideas, games, music, food and problems for Jack to ponder (be they electrical, metal or some other wonderfully esoteric thing!) fill the spaces in our day when Jack is not sleeping, eating, or doing therapy (PT, OT and Speech)

A quick review and update: On March 10th Jack had a significant right brain stroke which at this time has left him paralyzed on his left side, however his language and cognition are as keen as ever. The whole neurology team at Harborview Hospital were truly magnificent. As you know Jack needed a craniotomy to relieve the pressure on the right side of his brain. What an amazing thing. The skull piece, with his name on it, is in the fridge at the hospital waiting to be returned to its rightful owner! That should be in a couple more months, maybe sooner.

In the meantime he is at a skilled nursing facility in West Seattle, only five minutes from home, which is so grand as I can pop in anytime day or night and stay as long as I like – can’t think of a better place to be.

All days are pretty good some better than others, on really good days we have been given permission to act out … ask us some time about repositioning flamingos or setting off the fire sensors with an electric tea kettle! And of course there’s still got Slowcoach waiting in the wings to make an appearance.

Jack’s doctor has called him the stroke poster child for keeping a positive attitude, getting on with the rehab and responding so well to the therapy. We know this is going to be a long journey but we’re up for it, not that it’s all fun in fact it can be pretty tiring, but with so many folks sending us good cheer we feel truly blessed.

Anytime you are up this way Jack would love to see your cheery face, it truly makes him glow or if you have any bright ideas or words of wisdom they will always be most welcome.

He is at Park West, 1703 California Ave. SW, Seattle, WA 98116
The phone # is 206 937-9750 and you will be put through to the first floor nurses station someone will assist him in answering the phone if I am not there.

Otherwise you can reach me on my cell phone 206 334 0591 or leave a message at the house 206 935 4712 or email jslack@u.washington.edu.

Our world may be quite small right now but the community within it is vast.

Love & Peace Jack & Jennifer

Thought I'd take a couple of pics of the poster child, if you are so inclined to take a look!

but then there are others who, with the help of their art and their intelligence,
transform a yellow spot into the sun.” ~ Pablo Picasso ~
