Maybe it's that you can put a ring on a finger, and you can take off a finger with a ring. I live on the edge and take my chances. I know..... I'm a wildman.

Thats it, rings and fingers, was newly married and working in a submarine sail and came close to loosing a finger with a ring hung up on something, scary.

One machine shop I worked in had a ban on long sleeve shirts and overalls for machinists.

I deleted the post earlier, it was a short story told too long.

Machine shop next door to my old place, the owner had lost all the skin off the back of his finger when the lathe grabbed his wedding ring. (He came to do a quick job for his boat on a Saturday.) Never did find the ring either.

When I was 16, I tried out my new driver's license by taking my sister to a doctor's appointment. In the waiting room was some kind of medical magazine with an article on "degloving" injuries. Very well illustrated . . .

Ever since, well ever since I got married, I make sure to take my ring off if I'm working on anything.

I've had a couple of ring accidents. The first was when I crushed my finger while unloading a sod cutter off of a truck. The finger swelled up like a balloon with the ring cutting off the return blood flow. I ended up cutting the ring off with a triangle file while 2 buddies held the ring and pulled with some pairs of ChannelLocks.

Later, while framing a house, I was swinging down off a ceiling joist when my ring caught on a nail head that had been left up. Damn near yanked my finger off.

20 years after the first incident, when my wife and I were at the verge of divorce, the repair made to the ring (remember the triangle file?) failed, the ring broke and fell off my hand. I took it as an omen. [Image Can Not Be Found]

Years ago my wife had a card party with friends, one lady slammed the car door on her ring finger, ring smashed, finger swelling up, she was paniced. I said, dang, we better get that off or you could loose your finger, probably shouldn't have said that.Cry I cut it off with a pair of electricans dykes.

Got a ring grounded for a moment between the stinger and the welding table, that was long enough !
