Hello, my name is Andrew I don't have any formal metalworking experience. I actually developed an interest in bladesmithing due to the show forged in fire and I'm looking to give it a shot myself. I am currently residing in Bellingham as well. Does anyone have any tips on where I can find a nice beginner anvil?

Hi Andrew, and welcome! One of the best places to pick up an anvil will be this upcoming Swaptoberfest. There's usually a variety to choose from.
Also, if you're only interest is bladesmithing, then don't worry about looking for a traditional shaped anvil with horn and heel. All you'll really need is a solid chunk of steel that won't move. Atlas knifemaking comapny makes a reasonably priced anvil specifically geared towards bladesmithing.
Good luck and hope to see you this October.
as always
peace and love
