My husband can build or fix just about anything (carpentry, engine repair, welding). He has just retired (early... in his 50's) and has said a number of times that he would like to learn forging. I believe it's something he'd really enjoy and would like to give him a course or lessons for Christmas. Can anyone recommend a course, workshop or private lessons? We live on the Kitsap Peninsula in Washington, so something either within commuting distance or an intensive course/workshop where he would go and stay in the area for a few days at a time is what I'm looking for. Suggestions? Thx!

Hello A and welcome. There's lots of ways to learn...
A search on the site here will show you individual smiths who give classes. Commuting from the Kitsap Penninsula can mean a lot of different things, Burley reasonable to Tacoma, Bremerton and Bainbridge to Seattle, or Port Gamble to Edmonds.
The Pratt center in Seattle also offers a variety of smithing classes.

I live north of Poulsbo. I don't offer classes, but a few of us gather to forge and nosh (consume some groceries as Gene Chapman says) from time to time. You folks are welcome to visit the shop if you would like to try his hand before diving into what can be deep waters. Send me a private email and we can arrange a time if you are interested.

If you read down the FORUM Listings towards the bottom you will find VENDORS AND SUPPLIERS. Within that box is a listing of "Schools and other lessons". http://blacksmith.org/forums/f.....er-lessons The Calendar also contains class date information, though it is sometimes clunky to find them.
