I have not been able to find medium carbon or high carbon steels in most cities.  There seem to be a few dealers in the country that will sell in smaller quantities. One place I buy from is AKS Knife Supply. They sell in odd lengths. The longest is 23.5” long. And they ship in priority mail boxes. So if you buy enough it helps with shipping cost.
