Used to make some really big asphalt cutter bits to mount on excavator hammers. This one ends up about 12" wide and 2" thick. Start with a nice 8" round 4340 bar and turn the shank to 4" or what ever is required.

Just mash it on down.

And edge it a little, tough to get it turned! See the tongs in the second picture? I used to weld "steering wheels" on for turning and for hanging from a hook. It's only welded to the rivet.

We did bigger ones than this too!

Did you forge the shank down before turning it or was that all turned to chips?

That's a lot of machining. Why didn't you rough them down first?
