Grant's videos are cool to watch and get an idea of the forces of a friction press. I really want one because you can really smush the material around. I'm getting more and more into die work and am starting to like hydraulics less and less because of how fast the heat disappears. Are any of your machines still available?

I know this isn't a powered press, but I wanted to give this thread a bump.
I found this friction screw press with the friction parts stripped off, I added some handles and weight to the flywheel. Sturdier than my #6 Indian, I can crank it as hard as I'm able and not stress it.
I forged this 35lb, 6.5 foot long tapered pry bar for a mason, I straightened and refined the taper with the press. I made a simple rocker with a heavy bar 12'' long balanced on a thin bar as a pivot point which was enough to accommodate the taper on the bar. (middle photo shows a different bar being straightened)

Here is the die I made for making my 1 3/4 inch barrel hinges. The plate for the butt to the frame is 24 inches long. The right side of the die I put an air cylinder on to hold it straight up to upset it a bit and to round the end. I found if I don't round the end it is hard to make a good ball on the end. So far it looks like there will be very little waste. I can cut it almost the same length as the hinges comes out. The left side of the die is a top and bottom from to make the ball. The ball comes out at about 2 1/8 inches from the 1 3/4 inch solid. The top die has the form for making it round and the other side to make the ball.
I can't send any pictures with this, anybody else having trouble.
