I can't compete with the big boys here, but I did power up the 3B I've been working on this morning. I still have a lot of work to do before I should hit hot iron, but with some manual oiling and a temporary electrical feed, I ran it for a couple minutes.

Exciting times for me....

Pretty darn cool there Dave! Ya got it mounted pretty high don't cha? Can't see how you've got it mounted, must be all above floor, huh? Looks like you might need a platform to stand on. What ever works! Post more, let's see some iron getting mangled!

OBTW: I took out your URL and embedded the video. In the editing menu there is a tool to embed video [Image Can Not Be Found] just click on that and drop the video URL address in it.

I have a list of things to do before I should hit hot iron with it... Making a platform to stand on is one. I need to make new drifts, modify these dies to 4x8 inches, test and put on the oiler (did manual oiling for the video), put on the treadle and linkage, run permanent electrical, install magnetic switch... and probably more.

The base for the hammer is 1.75 inches of plate (2 pieces), with another 2 inch thick piece under the anvil. The anvil also sits on 2" of rock maple. The hammer is elevated on "C" channel.

I just finished getting enough of it together to test to see if it worked. Woo Hoo!....

I don't mean to bitch but now that you took the link out I can't go see the video ( imbedded video does not show up on my iPhone ). Can we have the link and the video? That way it would work for everyone?

Whatever you are, be a good one.

The hammer looks good Dave, looks like it has nice control. Why don't you try the big dies out before cutting them down? You may find you like having a big table on the big hammer. You have the 1B if you need the smaller dies. I wish I had bigger dies for the Massey when I get a chance I am going to make a bigger set. If you are dead set on the smaller dies maybe you could talk to Bob and see if he is interested in trading a smaller set of 3B dies for your larger ones, he may have a customer who wants big dies.

Well, that's the kind of feedback I need. So, from now on we want both I guess.

So here's Dave's 1-B:

JNewman....

Actually, two sets of the big dies came with the 3B. I will be keeping one set that size and see what I can do with them. I agree they will be a good thing to have.

Good suggestion about asking Bob if he wants to trade... I do want a narrower set for the 3B soon though. The dies on the 1B are only 1.5 x 5 inches.
