A few weeks ago I did a pattern welding demonstration at Christopher Thompson Iron works in Rowe New Mexico as part of SWABA's june campout. One of the many perks of doing this demo was getting to run a 500 pound Chambersburg self-contained air hammer, and a 500 pound Chambersburg utility hammer. These videos are of my first heats on the self-contained hammer (Getting a feel for the hammer the day befor the demo with no spectators). It was an unbelievably fun weekend and I remembered one thing... Don't forget to wipe off the oil that collects on the bottom die before forge welding on a power hammer! Good thing I am religious about wearing saftey gear! Thanks Grant for another great site!

in this one I am forgin a 1.5 by 3 by 7 inch billet

This hammer was installed over 20 years ago and is very well used but still has such fine controll that one of the in house smiths drove a straight pin flush into a 2 by 4 without touching the die to the board.

Nice videos Jose! Ain't a big hammer fun though? A 500 is a wonderful size. They scare a lot of folks, but in reality they are gentler in many ways than a small hammer. That one looks to have good control. In a big hammer power is a given, so all I judge them by is the control.

Thanks for sharing that, got any more?
