Hello Grant,
In your comments in David Hyde's article on punching holes you say that 15 tons is enough just go as much speed as you can ( I think that's the quote). I'm looking to build a press as a hammer is not viable in suburbia where I live. Obviously if I can keep the press as small in capacity as possible it will save me money in components. I do have a copy of Jim Batson's plans. Do you have some suggestions on ram size, speed, pump rates, motor sizes?
There is one down side to some of the presses I've seen on youtube etc. Like Randy McDaniel's press, that loud whine on his press is bad news, any suggestions? I think even with hearing protection it would still irritate.
On a lighter note, what was that joke you had about Aussies and beer consumption per mile or gallon per year or something like that? I reckon it was great, please give it to me again. I'm sure my mates will get a laugh too. Thanks, Bruce.
