Had an inquiry for a number of ladles... Iron handle, brass or bronze bowl... Anyone know where I can buy the bowls ready made??? Or maybe the brass or bronze discs and I'll bowl them myself... I need a bowl similar to the one in this photo. Really appreciate your help... Can't believe how much I have learned from you guys.
Thanks,
Lynn

I would just by a sheet and cut the disks out, and dish them. An easy way is to carve an impression into a stump to hammer into.

Thanks, Saign. What gauge sheet would you suggest, and would you use brass or bronze? Can you give me a source for the material?

The thickness depends on how thick you would like it. Most silverware is in the 16-12 gauge range I think somewhere in there would be fine. Brass is a little softer than bronze, but not a huge difference. As far as a source, I would check your local metal suppliers to save on shipping. If one doesn't have it, ask if they know somewhere close that does.

Saign, thanks so much for your help!! I ground a dish in an oak stump, used that to make the bowls... Worked great!!! I first tried with a 16 gauge disc of steel... (Didn't want to screw up a 26 dollar piece of copper.) Can you believe that??? Try to buy a small piece of copper or brass, i.e. 6" X 6". Only place I could find that was Metal Supermarket's in Portland... $59 and cents a square foot, plus $23 in packing and shipping... They call themselves the convenience store of metal... They sure charge like the convenience stores!!! I can get a 3' X 8' sheet of .064copper for $416 at Alaskan Copper and Brass... Comes out to $17 a square foot. What finish does one apply to a copper or brass kitchen utensil?? I was thinking of vegetable oil or bees wax... Thanks again, Lynn

Ya either of those will work. The thing with being a copper or brass kitchen utensil is that when it gets washed almost whatever is on there to seal it will come right off. So the client needs to just scrub it with a scotchbtrite sponge when they wash it as upkeep
