Hey all... I need to ship samples of a brass or bronze ladle with an iron handle with an open basket twist... Couldn't figure out how to weld in my gas forge... So, tonight, I thought I'd try a trick from Brad Roland and torch weld the pieces and them forge them... Damn and Blast!!! Aceylene was all used up!!! I need to ship these samples on Monday. So, well, what else do you do??? Tack welded the bundles with the arc welder and then tried for a forge weld... What I have learned is: in a propane forge, you gotta have a huge dragon's breath coming out... I cranked up the propane, dialed back the air and had a really green dragon's breath coming out about 8 inches... Beautiful man!!! Got forge welds!! Here's some pic's. The bowl for the ladle in this pic is made from 16 gauge sheet steel... I was practicing before screwing up some $26 worth of copper or brass. Here's the pic's...
