I got a call this last week from a fellow who bought some stuff out of a defunct Aluminum plant... He agreed to help the folks sell the 1000 pound Chambersberg hammer... Its a C frame open die forging hammer... what every blacksmith would want... There is a 10 ton crane overhead but my fear is both the anvil and the frame are going to weigh over 10 ton... The starting asking price is 10 grand... I also know they said the range they where willing to accept is 6-10 grand... I think if anyone had any real interest they could make any offer they wanted.. Personally I couldn't afford the hammer if it was free.. I love the idea of having it but the reality of trying to move and install a 1000 pound hammer (I think total weight is in the 50,000 pound range) and having power for a 50 HP motor... well its just out of my league..

Notice the 5 gallon bucket in the photo for scale...

Nice looking hammer but at that price the cost of the hammer is the least of the cost of putting a hammer that size in. No treadle because that hammer is not designed to be run by one guy, you need a hammer driver, then a couple of guys and a crane. Or alternatively a hammer driver and a manipulator, and most importantly a lot of paying work to pay for all of the above.

It makes that 5gal bucket look like a thimble! Lets see a, 5gal bucket is 12'' wide at the top so I reckon the ram is 18''or so with a 2' stroke? I don't know about a half ton hammer but a tad extra stroke would be useful......;)
