Hi, last summer I tried pattern welding for the first time. Well based on everything I had read I started with a billet 1.5" by 2" by6". The first weld went ok but then as I began to draw it out I hit a brick wall. Hard as I hit I could only dent it. Well it took a few days for me to realize that the info I had obtained was from people using presses. After this realization I cut the billet in half and forged a small hunter of around 500 layers. The other half of the billet I threw in a pile of half done work that lives by my forge. Well last week I dug it out and forged this blade. I don't remeber what I started with but I would estimate it at between 60 and 100 layers. It probaly could have used one more fold but I am pretty happy for a second try. I will definately be doing more.
