Lee and I are really looking forward to the coming 40th Anniversary NWBA Spring Conference, and are very busy with preparations. I have been making leaves for the NWBA Tree project, and could use some help. For more information on the NWBA Tree project, see the article in the most recent "Hot Iron News". Each leaf will ultimately be stamped with an NWBA Member's name and added to the Tree which symbolizes our Association.

If you would be able and willing to come to our apartment in Forest Grove, Oregon to help make leaves, we would be most grateful! I will be working on them today (Friday May 17th) and both Saturday and Sunday of this weekend. Monday after 4pm also works, as does Tuesday during the day and into the evening. Message me for more information and to arrange a time to come visit and help leaf out our NWBA Tree!

The actual tasks include cutting out blanks using my B1 Beverly Shear, trimming and filing smooth the rough edges, punching holes in the stems, marking veins and doing hammered tecturing, stamping names, and such.

I have cut out more than 400 leaf blanks in 24g copper sheet, and will be cutting out more -- see the picture below. Lee also scored some stainless steel sheet metal of a slightly thinner guage, and I will be cutting out some leaf blanks from that as well. I've heard that some folks might like to have their leaves done in mild steel, so if anyone has some thin mild steel sheet metal to contribute to the cause, please let me know. The copper I am using is 24g, or 0.02" (0.51mm) thick -- so any sheet metal of roughly that thickness will work. My Beverly Shear will cut up to 14 guage mild steel. Members who would like to make leaves for the Tree are welcome and encouraged to do so -- for more information, see the article in the most recent Hot Iron News,
