Hi all, does anybody have a used Beverly (small or medium) for sale or knows where I could find one at the moment?

I unfortunately bought a new knock of for $200 a couple of weeks ago (I see many of you shaking heads, now I know!) and it is terrible. The blades chipped at first use cutting 0.06" bronze sheet, and the replacement blades the company sent me chipped even worse at first use... It is ripping the metal apart rather than cutting it.

I make singing bowls and bells from brass and bronze and am looking for good shears now to make nice clean cuts. I'd appreciate every hint very much!

Hi Viola. I think you may have 2 different problems. The tearing is likely from poor fit up of the blades. That may be because the shear frame has loose tolerances, or if it's adjustable, that it isn't set correctly. Add for the chipping I would think that the blades aren't properly heat treated. They are likely full hard and not tempered. They may not even be normalized. Are your blades single edged, or reversable? One of the demonstrations at Swaptoberfest was on heat treating put on by Ryna who lives in Edmonds, WA. She might be a good one to ask about re- heat treating your blades. She could probably give advice about making new blades that could work better (if the shear is worth it). Good luck.

The frame of "brand x" shears should be okay. You can buy just blades for a Beverly shear and put on brand x frame....Many have done that...
