Hi I thought I would post a pair of tongs and a hammer I just made. I wanted a pair of Grants universal v bit tongs. I checked with blacksmith depot and they were out of stock. So I figured I should try to make a set. I consider myself more of a blade Smith but thanks to the mentors I've met at the NWBA conferences I was able to make the tongs and hammer and have them actually work.

They look great to me... and thats quite an anvil in the background as well... Did you build it as well?
Whatever you are, be a good one.

Thanks Larry. The anvil started out as a post anvil that is a piece of 4140 5 in square by 24 inch set on end. I then ended up adding another piece to make a longer flat with a hardy hole for tooling and then added a block with pritchert holes. It also has a heavy square four-inch diameter pipe on the one side the goes down to the base and has 1 inch round welded to the top that I use for punching and drifting tomahawk heads. I have two London pattern anvils I use for general blacksmithing but I like the post anvil best. For blade smithing. I've discovered that so far most blacksmithing and knife making has been making tools. The good thing is I've learned more making tools than anything else.
IUsed my champion power Hammer to forge out the hammer head .I Don't know if Iwould have done one without it .the head is about 3 3/4pounds .

My champion is a number 1 also. Which is 65 pound just like your hammer. They also made a smaller one that is a 0 and they were 35 pound. I've also seen larger ones in the 150 range. My hammer came out of Seattle and was originally used to make gaff hooks. I got lucky and was at the right place at the right time to purchase it. You can see in the pictures that mine has a huge overhead pulley for the drive belt and the clutch built with the motor on the floor. This set up works really smooth and I am running it with a 1 1/2 horse motor. I can get single blows with the factory break set up. It's

neat! thanks for the pics! I got a great deal on the hammer and a bunch of other "stuff" Sadly I have to admit I have been a slacker and it is still not up and running about 8 years later... School, cars, and girls got in the way.
I bought a house this year and plan to put a 12foot shed roof off the garage and finally set up shop at home and get my hammer up and running! that is if the wife 2 kids and work will let me!
