Hello, I teach woodworking, among other things at Chimacum High School. I have been slowly getting equipment for some metalworking and basic blacksmithing. We have a forge and anvil and assorted other stuff. I have some money available, not a lot, but I was thinking of getting these shears, for general cutting stuff out sort of work. For example I have kids who would like to make armor kinds of things. Or at least try and I am all up for them trying. I think somewhere it said these would cut 1/8" . Any thoughts?

Thanks TOdd

It looks like you can only cut in a straight line. It would be hard to cut a curved piece needed for armor. I have a #3 Beverly shear which is throutless. I can cut 10 gauge in a pretty sharp curve with no problem. The shear blade are still sharp and has no chips. plus new blades are available. I would consider selling it if you are intrested.

i agree for armor making i would go with the beverly shears they are nicer to cut curves with ... i own a beverly shear and have used it for over 20 years without having to sharpen or repair it at all !
