Hello's from New! member,

My son,(just turned 15yr old- already 6' tall and heading to 6'-7" like my father) big, ready to hammer all day and night.

He is needing a Good Priced Swage Block. I had hoped to buy one from the Chap that just offered 1 or two out, listing it, where it showed in Google search. I guess it sold, but i missed it, when working to get it, while my (registering) was taking place.

I hope to find at least a Min, or 16x16 and can pay Good market value, maybe even a bit more. I as well will have added cost of collecting it. I am in the general Northern West coast, to as well the ability to travel down south to LA and am now locaed in the TX -DFW area.
I work in San Fransisco, and have owned homes in Sonoma area, having worked on projects as far up North as Washington State. I have no troubles to drive to gather one, but just might need a little schedule time to get it.
I am doing 6-8 projects in Bay area of CA, on regular schedule, so i am sure it would be easy to find a fast and easy transaction time and date, to come get it.

I do not want to get one off E-Bay and deal with all that Bunk, with shippings costs as well. I love to travel and it gives me some Vaca time for family/Kids as well.
I will be in West coast, from LA to Napa, within a few weeks, but can travel up to Alaska, if need be. I have some family there and no problem to hang out there,as well the Washington/Oregon States, while gathering a Swage from Up there in AK/Wash/Org States.

Just give me a shout if you have one available, of this size already spoke of, and have ready the $$$ you want,(within reason of course) and at least a good market value. I might toss in more, for holding it for a week or 2-3, if schedule is slight time issue to get there. I just need a fair deal. I am not looking for " RARE " ones, "Special" ones, Extra "Vintage" ones, which maybe somebody needs to add 1-2-3-4 hundred more because of these Tag names applied..
I am not looking to keep it pretty and have a show piece, just need one for a young boy of 15yr old, to learn the trade on.

I have built a Furnace, Gas furnace and Snappy-WV, Power Hammer, all in this last Yr, so he has plenty of tools to help him learn. I already bought a Double bick and a French 209 lb anvil, so he has two anvils, from a Chap- Gary Hilton in Austin/Huston HABA area of TX.

I have plenty of small hammers and tools, but just need this 16x16 -18x18 Swage, for him to practice with, MAYBE? a leg vice in the future, but not now. We have 3 other vices, of very heavy weight for now.

Please let us know if you can part with a good size Swage and it needs to be of 150-300 lbs, but for sure at least a 16 -18 sq'er size.

Thanks for the long read. I am New to this site, so please be patient with my ramblings. I try to give all the information i can, so a person will not expect something, or misunderstand what i need. I am offering to buy one(1) Swage of certain only size 16 -18 inch sq'erd type, pick it up and pay $CASH$ on arrival, when there to pick it up.

Very very best to you all and thanks again for reading this LONG winded WTB Note.

Best regards 2 all, and yours out there.
God bless.:wavespin:

Welcome!:wavespin:

In addition to putting the word out up here, you might want to put out the word down there too: http://www.calsmith.org/resour.....scussions/

It is ALWAYS good to hear young folk are taking an interest in our craft. Also always good to know they have the support of their folks in this endeavor.

No matter where you go... there you are.

Yes,
good to have advice on this idea you speak of.

I am trying now to get over to some Hammer-Ins? they are called?

My son had a cut of 3/4 steel re-bar,3 ft long- or 32inch? something like this,he cut from a 6 ft piece i found on the road. He took it an pounded out a 4ft sward, that was very straight and true. He started in Hilt, but i went out to do project in CA, where then he ended up breaking the sward into 4-5 pieces, just to see how tempering would hold up.
He is praticing and having spent 2 cans of gas on that sward, i figure he needs better training, so Not to waist the fuel.

With some help and a few more tools, he can move forward. We where at the local Grapevine,TX shop, where Will Frary pounded out a short dagar from the same 3/4 steel we brought to him, so then my son was hooked.
He loves guitar and this Blacksmith work, so we will start heading to the shows and see where it heads.

Thanks for help.
